Reception Class have been reading the Colour Monster this week and have talked about different feelings and emotions. We've talked about what makes us happy and sad and the children have created their own colour monsters to show different emotions. We have also been talking about birthdays this week and learning that everyone celebrates in different ways. Some children had birthday parties in the Home Corner and made birthday cakes in the mud kitchen. We were very brave this week and visited our Year Six buddies in their classroom for the first time! We chose stories to bring with us and the buddies read them to us. We had our first PE lessons this week, where we played some ball games and started our Bike-ability lessons.  Talk to me about our emotions. Words to use: it's okay to feel... anger, sad, fear, worry, happy, calm, love Tip of the week: Log in to Seesaw to see what your child is learning in class! We have been reading: The Colour Monster

    • Krone - Year 5

This week, we have used speaking and listening very effectively to develop our understanding of how to make texts more exciting. We did an excellent job of discussing a simple passage that had been written in response to a picture from ‘The Errand’, identifying the nouns within the passage, and then exploring how the passage could be re-written, using expanded noun phrases to enhance its meaning. We also revisited the parts of the text from The Errand/Instructions that have captured our imaginations, explaining why. We have read parts of the text aloud and discussed how the author uses different sentence types and construction, as well as layout, to achieve pace and to control how the writing is read, and have started experimenting creating different types of sentences ourselves. We have been revising different types of foods in Spanish; learning to say we are hungry, and asking others what they would like to eat. We have also enjoyed joining in a fun song to practise this vocabulary. In Spelling, we have played an excellent new game to revise rules for making plurals. In Science, we have applied our knowledge of the order of the planets from the sun to make predictions -for example regarding which planets we think might be able to support life and why. In Maths, we have started a new unit on multiplication and division and have been exploring multiples and factors.

    • Yen - Year 6

As part of the mock SATs week in Yen class we have completed a number of SATs papers: GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling); a reading paper; an arithmetic paper; and two maths reasoning papers. Both Mrs Fairhurst and Mrs Newton have been very impressed with our approach to these tests. This week we also spent some time with our Reception class buddies. They came to the Year 6 classroom and shared a variety of books from their class with us. We really enjoyed reading with our buddies! In our science lesson this week we had to answer the question: how does the number of lamps affect how long a battery lasts. We were given free choice about how to present this information. All of us decided to use a circuit diagram to demonstrate our answer to this question. We were encouraged to use the correct vocabulary and to explain clearly what we thought. In our Design Technology lesson we started to think about frame structures in preparation for designing and making our own Anderson shelters.
